Holi lovingly exclaimed as the festival of colors, will be celebrated on 29th March 2021, across the country. The warm delightful gujiyas, mithais, thandai, and many other traditional delicacies make the people high on sugar. The celebration and the festivities are usually full of enthusiasm, laughter, and large gatherings.

However, the Holi of this year would be celebrated by some of the restrictions imposed by the government. The country has recorded 47,262 new Covid-19 cases on Wednesday, 24th March 2021, taking the nationwide tally to 11,734,058, according to the health ministry’s dashboard.

Due to the sudden hike in the COVID cases in many prominent regions of the country, the Government of India as well as some of the state governments have issued specific guidelines for the celebration.

On Wednesday, 24th March 2021, the Central government issued circular advising states and union territories to impose restrictions, under Section 22 of the Disaster Management Act. As a preventive measure in general, people are advised by the government to remain inside their homes and avoid any kind of public gatherings.

As responsible citizens of India, it is our civil responsibility to do what is needed from us for stopping the viral spread and not let the repeat of the previous year happen once again.

What can I do?

A single person has the capability to initiate the change. Though the government is working on its policy and regularly releasing new announcements, circulars, guidelines, and public notices to aware people of the situation and warn the defaulter. However, the task would remain unaccomplished until and unless the steps are taken at an individual level.

You must prevent this spread and at the same time enjoy the vibrance of the festival as well. Some of the keen pointers to be kept in the mind are as follows:

  1. Ensure that no one with signs of cold or fever is involved in the celebration
  2. Avoid large gatherings rather play with a small group of people closely associated with you.
  3. Avoid the celebrations completely, in case of mild cold or cough.
  4. Never take your mask off
  5. Remember to maintain social distancing, and not let people smear colour on your face
  6. Don’t eat anything until you take a shower and frequently wash your hands
  7. Always prefer the home-made food instead of the ready made or the restaurant foods.
  8. Infants, toddlers, and senior citizens should completely avoid the celebrations
  9. Try to celebrate the festival indoor
  10. Avoid shaking hands and hugs all together.

Always remember, prevention is better than cure. Therefore, it is important to take the necessary precautions and stop the disease from spreading all together. There are high chances of the numbers of the covid infections to increase in the coming few months and the chances are that it can affect the economy and health of the country in a much grander scale than the last time in the already healing country.
