NMC Sets Deadline for Rectifying Eligibility Certificates Corrections Within 10 Days

December 27, 2023

The National Medical Council, in its latest notice dated 26th December 2023, draws attention to the deficiencies in the application for obtaining Eligibility Certificates for medical education abroad. Further, this notice caters to the applicants listed in Annexure I, highlighting the need for prompt action to rectify the identified deficiencies.

This scrutiny process was conducted by the Evaluation and Monitoring Review Board (EMRB), which revealed discrepancies in the application received for Eligibility Certificates, leading to delays in the process. In this regard, the National Medical Council has invoked Section 13 (4B) of the Indian Medical Council Act, 1956, which further states that any person who is a citizen of India and has not been granted the Eligibility Certificate by the NMC is not eligible to appear in any screening test. Therefore, it is mandatory for all students before seeking medical education in any foreign institution to obtain eligibility certificates from the Council.

However, the National Medical Council has made some exemptions for Indian citizens who acquired medical qualifications from foreign institutions or obtained admission before the commencement of the Indian Medical Council (Amendment) Act, 2001.

Further, the NMC clarified that the requirement for an Eligibility Certificate was waived following the declaration of the NEET-UG 2019 results. Moreover, qualifying for the NEET-UG exam after June 5, 2019, serves as a mandatory criterion to obtain Eligibility Certificates for Indian/OCI citizens intending to pursue MBBS or equivalent medical courses abroad.

The notice specifically addresses the applicants mentioned in Annexure I who proceeded abroad without obtaining an eligibility certificate from the Council. Hence, to rectify this, the National Medical Council has provided 10 10-day window to correct these deficiencies. In case, students mentioned in Annexure I failed to make timely corrections, the applications will be summarily rejected.

The NMC majorly emphasized the importance of adhering to the specified timeline to ensure a smooth and timely resolution of the matter.

Students are advised to kindly go through the official notification for further details.
