MBBS students to assist doctors in the covid treatment

A recent announcement by Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has become a hot potato among MBBS students in the capital city. The news came at the start of the week with official orders stipulating 4th and 5th-year MBBS students and dental doctors to assist doctors serving the covid pandemonium. The students selected for the same will be offered an honorarium of 1000 rs for every eight-hour shift and 2000 rs for 12-hour shifts per day.

The news has come at a time when citizens around the city are bracing themselves for a second wave of the corona pandemic. The recent spike in the number of cases has got the state medical services in jitters as the patients are outnumbering doctors who can serve them. Hence, the news comes at a time when the state administration is trying to workforce the shortage. Earlier on Wednesday, given the rising covid-19 cases, the Delhi government had allowed covid-19 designated hospitals to engage fourth and fifth-year MBBS students, interns, and BDS doctors to help senior doctors on duty to control the pandemic,

The Delhi Government, in its recent announcement, has also said that in the case of interns, the honorarium would be over and above their stipend.
