Children of deceased COVID Warriors to get MBBS and BDS Reservation

In a recent turn of events, Union Health & Family Welfare Minister Dr. Harsh Vardhan on Thursday announced that five central poll seats will be reserved for children of covid-19 warriors who have lost their lives.

The reservation will be provided in MBBS and Bachelor of Dental Courses under the central quota and will be applicable for this academic year, 2020-21.

Central Pool MBBS seats will be allocated for selection and nominations of the candidates from amongst the wards of “COVID Warriors”, who have lost their lives due to COVID-19; or died accidentally on account of COVID-19 related duty, the minister said in a statement published recently.

Who is covered under this scheme of things?

The government of India defines Covid warriors as ‘public healthcare workers’ who make have been in direct contact and care of COVID- 19 patients and are at risk of being impacted by this.

Private hospital staff members and retired, volunteer, local urban bodies, contracted, daily-wage, ad-hoc, outsourced staff requisitioned by states, central hospitals, autonomous hospitals of central, states, UTs, AIIMS and Institutes of National Importance (INIs), hospitals of central ministries drafted for COVID-19 related responsibilities.

How will the prospective students be selected?

The selection of students will be made by the Medical Committee through online application on the basis of NEET rank of 2020 conducted every year by the National Testing Agency.

The Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Government of India (GOI) has established the National Testing Agency (NTA) as an independent autonomous and self-sustained premier testing organization for conducting efficient, transparent, and international standard tests in order to access the competency of candidates for admission to premier higher education institutions.

NATIONAL ELIGIBILITY CUM ENTRANCE TEST (UG), (NEET (UG) is conducted by National Testing Agency (NTA) every year for admission to MBBS/BDS Courses and other undergraduate medical courses in approved/recognized Medical/Dental and other Colleges/ Institutes in India.
