In its latest public notification, the National Testing Agency (NTA) has officially announced the cancellation of the NEET-UG 2026 exam, after reports received from central agencies and law enforcement authorities regarding alleged irregularities in the examination process. The decision was made with the approval of the Government of India and comes as part of ongoing efforts to safeguard the integrity and transparency of national-level examinations.
In an official statement issued as a continuation of its earlier press release dated 10 May 2026, NTA stated that it had referred the matter to central agencies on 8 May 2026 for independent verification and necessary action. After reviewing the inputs received and findings shared by investigative authorities, the agency said that the existing examination process “could not be allowed to stand.”
As a result, the NEET UG 2026 examination will now be re-conducted on fresh dates, which will be announced separately through NTA’s official communication channels. The revised admit card schedule will also be issued in the coming days.
The Government of India has additionally decided to hand over the matter to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for a comprehensive inquiry into the allegations linked to the examination. NTA confirmed that it would extend full cooperation to the Bureau and provide all required records, materials, and assistance during the investigation.
The National Testing Agency has further clarified that all registration details, candidature data, and examination centre preferences submitted for the May 2026 cycle will automatically be carried forward to the re-conducted examination to reduce the burden on candidates. No fresh application process will be required, and candidates will not have to pay any additional examination fee. It also announced that fees already paid by students would be refunded, while the fresh examination would be conducted using NTA’s internal resources.
NTA has urged candidates and parents to rely solely on official communication channels for updates regarding the revised examination schedule and admit cards, and to avoid misinformation or unverified reports circulating on social media.
For any further queries, candidates can contact NTA through the official helpline at neet-ug@nta.ac.in or call at 011-40759000 and 011-69227700.
