The National Medical Commission (NMC) has directed all medical colleges and institutions nationwide to avoid granting leave to students on May 2 and 3, 2026, ahead of NEET UG on May 3. This measure aims to protect the fairness and integrity of the national-level entrance exam.
NMC Stresses Exam Integrity
In a public notice issued on April 23, 2026, the NMC stated that the directive follows guidance from the Department of Higher Education under the Ministry of Education. It highlighted the importance of maintaining the sanctity of the examination process.
Moreover, the Commission has urged all medical colleges to stay alert and educate students about avoiding any actions that could affect the smooth conduct of NEET UG 2026. It added that limiting leave is meant to discourage any chances of malpractice.

Strict Leave Ban Amid Exam Scrutiny
The notice said, “Leave will not be permitted on May 2 and 3, except in rare cases with valid justification.” The advisory has been shared with deans and principals of medical colleges, along with state and Union Territory authorities responsible for medical education.
This step comes amid increased scrutiny of entrance exams in recent years. Now, the NMC is taking stricter measures to prevent irregularities and ensure a fair environment for the large number of NEET UG aspirants.
NEET 2026 Updates and Fraud Alert
NEET UG 2026 is scheduled for May 3. The exam city slips were released on April 12, while admit cards are expected to be issued on Sunday, April 26. Notably, around 99.2 per cent of candidates have been assigned their first-choice exam cities.
The NTA has also warned NEET UG 2026 aspirants about fraudulent social media groups, especially on Telegram, that claim to provide access to exam papers. Following several complaints, the agency has advised students not to trust such claims and stated that strict legal action is being taken against those spreading misinformation.
