About the FMGE Exam

The Foreign Medical Graduate Examination (FMGE) is a mandatory licensing test organized by NBEMS for Indian citizens and Overseas Citizens of India (OCI) who have completed their medical education abroad. The exam ensures that foreign medical graduates meet the required medical competency standards before practicing medicine in India.

It serves as a crucial pathway for Indian students holding MBBS or equivalent degrees from institutions outside India, especially from countries like Russia, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, the Philippines, and Ukraine, to qualify for medical registration in India.

Exam Pattern and Passing Criteria

The FMGE exam is a computer-based examination conducted in two parts of 150 questions each, held on the same day.

  • Each question carries one mark, with no negative marking.
  • The paper covers pre-clinical, para-clinical, and clinical subjects taught in the MBBS curriculum.

Candidates must score a minimum of 150 out of 300 marks (50%) to qualify. Only candidates who achieve this passing score are eligible to apply for provisional or permanent registration with the NMC or respective State Medical Councils.
