NEET UG 2027 to Go Fully Online From Next Year, Says Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan

The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) UG is set to undergo one of its biggest changes in recent years. Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has announced that NEET UG will be conducted in a computer-based online format from next year, replacing the traditional pen-and-paper OMR system.

The announcement comes in the wake of the NEET UG 2026 controversy, where allegations of paper leaks and examination irregularities led to the cancellation of the exam conducted on May 3. The government later ordered a fresh examination and initiated a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the matter.

‘No More OMR Sheets,’ Says Education Minister

Addressing the media, Dharmendra Pradhan stated that the “root issue” behind the controversy would be addressed by moving NEET to a computer-based test format. He confirmed that OMR answer sheets would no longer be used from the next academic year.

According to reports, the government believes that conducting NEET online can improve transparency, reduce the risk of paper leaks, and strengthen the overall security of the examination process.

Fresh NEET UG 2026 Exam Scheduled for June 21

The government has announced that the re-examination for NEET UG 2026 will be conducted on June 21. Admit cards are expected to be released on June 14.

Officials have clarified that students will not need to register again for the re-exam, and no additional fee will be charged. Existing candidature details and exam centre preferences will remain valid.

What This Means for Students

For lakhs of NEET aspirants, the shift to online testing marks a major transition. Students preparing for future NEET exams may now need to become familiar with computer-based test environments alongside their academic preparation.

NEET has traditionally been conducted in offline mode using OMR sheets across thousands of centres in India. The upcoming change is expected to reshape how students prepare, practise mock tests, and approach time management during the examination.
