NEET SS 2025 Counselling Update: MCC Revises Seat Matrix Before Round 1 Locking

The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) has officially revised the Round 1 seat matrix for NEET SS 2025 counselling.

This update was issued after multiple medical institutions informed MCC about changes in their super-speciality seat availability for the current academic session.

As per the official notice, both additions and withdrawals of seats have been implemented. Moreover, the updated matrix has already been reflected in the counselling system.

Course-wise Changes

Seats added include:

  • DM Endocrinology – 2 seats

  • DM Medical Oncology – 2 seats

  • MCh Surgical Oncology – 4 seats

  • MCh Surgical Gastroenterology – 2 seats

Seats withdrawn include:

  • DrNB Cardiology – 4 seats

  • DrNB Urology – 2 seats

  • DM Onco Pathology – 2 seats

Why This Update Is Important

Seat matrix revisions directly affect the counselling outcome. Even small changes can impact competition levels, cut-offs, and seat allotment chances.

MCC has clearly advised candidates to review the updated seat matrix carefully before finalising their choices, as the revised data will be used for allotment.

Deadline and Timeline You Must Know

The Round 1 choice filling process was scheduled to conclude on March 16, 2026, with a limited window for choice locking on the same day.

However, the deadline was later extended to March 17, 2026 (8:00 AM), giving candidates extra time to update and lock their preferences.

The Round 1 seat allotment result is expected on March 18, 2026.

How MCC Seat Matrix Revisions Work

The seat matrix in NEET SS counselling is not fixed and can be updated based on inputs from participating institutes. Colleges may revise their seat availability due to administrative approvals, accreditation changes, or internal adjustments.

Once these updates are submitted, the Medical Counselling Committee reflects them in the central counselling system. This ensures that allotments are conducted using the most accurate and current data. Such revisions are a normal part of the counselling process, especially before or during early rounds. Also, candidates are expected to stay updated and make decisions accordingly.

What Aspirants Should Do Now

NEET SS counselling is a dynamic process where last-minute changes are common. This update highlights one key lesson: never rely on old data.

Candidates should regularly check the official MCC portal and base their decisions only on the latest seat matrix. A well-informed choice today can significantly improve your chances of securing your preferred super-speciality seat.
