The National Medical Commission (NMC) has given good news to NEET aspirants of 2026. The Health Minister Anupriya Patel presented data in the Rajya Sabha, stating that over 11,000 seats have been added in India for the year 2026. In addition, the number of medical colleges has also been increased in the country.
This information has also been updated on the NMC website – nmc.org.in. The candidates can see the complete information given with the name of each medical college in the country. The information includes the state name, whether it is government/private, and the number of seats.
The Number of MBBS Seats in India in 2026
As per the data given on the NMC website, the total number of MBBS seats in the last year (2025) was 118, 190. This number is increased to 129, 603 this year (2026).

The Number of Medical Colleges in India in 2026
The National Medical Commission has provided the data for the total number of medical colleges on its web portal for the years 2025 and 2026. As per this data, the total number of medical colleges in India, including AIIMS and JIPMER, was 780 in the year 2025. However, this number will increase to 824 by 2026. This is the list of colleges offering MBBS courses in India.
NEET PG Seats Increased As Well
As per the data provided by the National Medical Commission (NMC) to the Ministry of Health, the number of medical colleges and seats in India has doubled in the last ten years. In 2014, there were around 387 medical colleges in India, and 51,000 NEET UG seats, which have now increased to 1.25 lakh.
The number of NEET PG seats was 31,000, and this number has now increased to more than 85,000.
The Health Ministry also said that the National Medical Commission accepts applications every year for setting up new medical colleges
