Russia has been a favored destination among the students seeking medical education across the world for several decades. The magnetic advantage of affordable and quality education has been one of the major reasons for this favoritism towards the Russian universities among the aspiring students.

A recent report published by the Russian News Agency TASS, has stated that, “In 2022 the number of foreign students in Russia has increased by 8.4% compared with 2021 and has amounted to 351,448. The overall number of foreign students receiving higher education in Russia has risen to more than 36,000 over the past three years. That is, in 2021 there were 324,000 foreign students in Russia and in 2020 there were 315,000 foreigners.”

The report further quoted State Secretary and Science and Higher Education Deputy Minister, Mr Peter Kucherenko, reporting that Russia ranked seventh among all countries in the number of foreign students as per the stats available by mid- November.

The Russian Ministry of Science and Higher Education also made a revelation that in 2021, even when the world was still recovering post the Corona pandemic, Russia, ranked 5th in the world in terms of overall number of foreign students studying in Russian universities

With the evident increase of 36,000 between the number of international students in Russian universities in 2020 and 2022, the state recorded an exemplary increase of 8.4%. The report pointed out that the stated data for 2022 excludes the international students who have paid their fees as the enrollment is still in the process. The final conclusive and cumulative data for 2022, is likely to be announced later.
