500 New MBBS Seats to be added in 3 New Medical Colleges in Maharashtra- MCI

As per the recent announcement made by the Medical Council of India (MCI), this year over 500 new seats will be added to the pool of undergraduate medical seats in the state of Maharastra with the establishment of 3 new medical colleges. Out of these coming 3 new medical colleges, 2 of them will have a total seat of 300 and will be affiliated to deemed universities, whereas the 1 new medical university will be under the governance of private management.

The establishment of these 3 new medical universities will take a total seat count of 6,700 in both government and private medical colleges. With the addition of these 3 universities, the total count of medical seats in the MBBS program in Maharastra will go up to 8,900. Which clearly brings happiness to all aspiring medical students who are planning to pursue their academic career in the field of medicine.

With the addition of these 3 new medical colleges, the MBBS seats in Maharastra has gone up by close to 30% so far in the last two years. The 3 medical colleges will be located in Pune, Sindhugarh, and Nagpur. MCI has approved the proposal of the establishment of these colleges this week only.

An all women’s medical college with an intake of 150 seats is set up by the Symbiosis International (Deemed University) at Lavale, Pune, for 2020-21. The long-pending proposal of Narayan Rane’s for SSPM Medical College and Lifetime Hospital also got a green signal from the Medical Council of India (MCI) this year. Whereas, the 3rd college manages and government by Datta Meghe (deemed) group will start functioning in Nagpur. In addition to these, the Datta Meghe College in Wardha has got the approval to add around 50 more MBBS seats along with this, 10 more seats have been added to Armed Forces Medical College in Pune.

The Directorate of medical education and research (DMER)- Dr. TP Lahane has confirmed the approval given by MCI for the establishment of 3 new medical colleges in Maharastra. He also confirmed that one of the new medical colleges will be a part of the centralized admission process. He also stated that a government medical college in Nandurbar which consists of 100 seats in under review by the council. The college will enroll students for this year’s admission too.

Out of 8,900 seats in the state, about 6,700 will be available for admissions in the centralized admission process held by the DMER and the state CET cells. The admission fee of the medical college situated in Sindhudurg will be decided by the Fee Regulating Authority, where the admission fee of the other two new medical colleges will be decided by the respective deemed universities they are affiliated to.
